Going Green With Electronics: The Definitive Guide

Environmentally friendly green energy is good for the world, and it saves you on energy costs as well. This article has some helpful advice for you to learn how to convert your home into a green energy saving environment.

Changing your heating to solar water can reduce the price to heat your water, hot tub and pool. Using gas or electricity to heat water isn't efficient. However, solar water heaters use the sun to make water comfortable and reduce energy consumption. These upgrades may cost more, but qualify for tax deductions, too.

Keeping your windows shaded to keep sunlight out of the house will greatly conserve energy. You could also try putting in curtains or blinds. By using heavy window covering you house will remain cooler which will decrease the amount of air conditioning needed. The result is a significant energy savings and money in your pocket!

Getting solar panels put in at home is simple and easy to attain energy from this source. Before you do this though, you need to think about a few things first. The number one to think about is the amount of sun your home gets. If you live somewhere where the sun doesn't shine often, or in a shady location, you won't get as much benefit from solar power.

Start paying attention to your energy consumption. Unplug the charger for your iPod and XBox when they are not in use. Chargers for cell phones, mp3 players, laptops and other devices draw some power when they are plugged in, regardless of whether you are actually charging the device.

Furnace filters should be replaced annually, and check them monthly for cleanliness. Install filters for your warm-air registers, too. This will help keep debris from clogging up heating ducts and becoming inoperable.

Heating your water with the power of the sun can be very efficient. This works best in areas where the temperature doesn't drop below freezing. Solar energy systems circulate water through solar heaters and then pump it into the house. Though you can use this system, it's best to have a regular water heater for backup purposes, just in case there is a day with little sunlight or more water usage than normal.

Check what other energy sources are available in your neighborhood. Determine which energy source is cheapest for your home. Don't forget to account for any government incentives that might be in effect. For instance, you may save on energy costs by heating your home with gas instead of with electricity or by using well water instead of city water.

Take the time to properly maintain your refrigerator. You have to ensure it is in great working condition, as it sucks up energy like a sponge. Make sure to clean heating coils often. In addition, be sure your door seal is tight and clean.

Now that you've read a few tips about utilizing green energy, you should have an idea of how beneficial it would be to you. As a bonus, greener energy is great for the environment as well. Put the tips in this article into practice and you will soon see how easy it can be to be green.

If you are employing a handyman to do some work, get everything in writing. This ensures you don't get overcharged in the end. You're in a dangerous position if you don't have a contract.

Make sure to define each of the rooms in your house before selling your home. A family room must have the right accessories and furniture; this should also be the case with an office. Buyers are visual, and they often have a hard time imagining themselves in a space if it isn't properly appointed. A home with well-defined areas is more attractive and will sell much faster.

Make sure all bathrooms, the laundry room and the kitchen all have exhaust fans. Moist, humid air can cause mold and mildew. Also, if you are able to reduce the amount of humidity inside, you can prevent rot from occurring.

Adding bold prints to your room can make it appear more personable. Leopard or zebra are good choices, but keep the design small to avoid overwhelming your space. Use it on some throw pillows, a decorative vase, or your wall art for instance.

Install a lighting system that is enabled by motion detectors. By switching off the lights when they aren't needed, motion detectors will knock a few bucks off your electric bill. They are also a great tool to scare of any potential thieves, as the lights turn on as they approach the house.

The long blind cords in your home should be cut, tied or put in loops. It is possible for kids and animals to accidentally strangle themselves on such cords. Leave just enough cord so you can use the blinds, but don't leave any that will cause a problem. Give it a snip or tie it off to avoid accidents.

When renovating, a smart homewoner will spend his money on good quality materials and fixtures instead of expensive decor and furniture. Those are the things that add value to the property. Quality fixtures stay in the home and increase the value of your home.

With a firm plan in place, you can begin with confidence. By working together, you are sure to have a great time and gain a sense of share achievement. You will enjoy reflecting upon your work as well as enjoying the cost savings.

Where can I find a good write up / steps for headlight restoration or headlight repair? I've heard brake fluid might work or wet sanding. Is there a headlight cleaner or headlight retoration kit to clean headlights w/ a UV inhibitor to seal the lens?

First off do not ever try brake fluid on your headlights, or other home remedies like transmission fluid, or oven cleaner because you will permanently damage your headlight lenses where they can never be restored. If you buy from the internet, research the company, see if they do it locally, if they do then they are probably legit. Look for a complete headlight restoration kit and not some miracle polish, creme, or solution odds are they are some home remedies ie transmission fluid so know your buyer. Lastly you will need something or a kit that includes some sort of sealer because after the restoration is complete you will want to keep them that way, pretty much the only way of doing so is resealing your headlights with a quality uv sealer much like what is put on your headlights to begin with. After you put such a sealer, that has uv inhibitor properties you will only need to perform simple maintenance on them with a microabrasive polish much like Plastx maybe once every 3 months for best results. Good luck, and get them fixed because its not just an aesthetic problem but a road safety issue.

IS THERE NY RECOMMENDED LAYOUT FOR PLANTING VEGTABLES IN A HOME GARDEN?

Yes, there is. Some plants complement each other when planted together. Green beans (pole variety) do well when planted between the rows of corn; the corn being used as a "pole." Be sure to plant the corn 2 weeks or more ahead of the beans so this will work out. It's OK to plant the beans a little later, anyway.

Also, I plant squash, cucumbers, pumpkin and melons right next to the corn, and let the vining varietes meander into the corn. This saves water.

Plant your dill for pickling spices next to your tomatos as it will help deter those nasty tomato worms.

Rodale publishing has a book out about organic gardening (the only way to go for me) and it talks about which plants go well together. Try a Google search on this book. Enjoy your garden!

Eco-Friendly Flooring is Rising in Popularity

In the construction industry, environmentally conscious building materials and practices have been gaining significantly in popularity in the past few years. Even during the height of the economic downturn, when home building in general slowed down, the "green" construction market surged up by 50 percent between 2008 and 2010, and made further gains in 2011. Green construction and remodeling are projected to make even greater gains in the next several years.

Green, or eco-friendly, construction refers to building or remodeling using materials or practices that improve the project's environmental impact in any of a number of ways. The components of the building project may be made of recycled materials, or be able to be reclaimed and recycled at the end of the building's life span. The materials might be made from renewable, natural ingredients that do not cause health problems or harm the environment in their production or use. The building may be constructed in such a way that it requires less energy to heat, light, or cool effectively. The building materials might come from local sources, saving fuel in transporting them to the building site. While using green building materials may sometimes cost more than "standard" materials during the initial construction of the home, the long-term savings in energy costs, higher home values, and potential tax benefits that green construction confers are often more than the initial investment.

It is popularly thought that manufactured materials like sheet vinyl are not eco-friendly but that is not the case. Sheet vinyl flooring can easily be made a part of any green construction project. Sheet vinyl is often made with significant percentages of recycled content, and can be recycled at the end of its life span, keeping more materials out of our landfills, which are rapidly approaching capacity. Because vinyl does not trap dust, pet dander, or other particulate allergens, sheet vinyl flooring can significantly improve air quality compared to carpeting and certain other types of flooring. While poor air quality can affect everyone, people with allergies, asthma, or respiratory or cardiovascular illnesses are most vulnerable. The risk is further increased for those who remain indoors much of the time, including very young children, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses. Installing a type of flooring, like sheet vinyl, that does not collect particulate matter can help reduce the respiratory irritation, headaches, and fatigue associated with poor air quality.

When working to make a construction or remodeling project involving sheet vinyl more eco-friendly, you should consider the adhesive used to lay the flooring as well as the vinyl itself. Many adhesives contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which have a high vapor pressure under room-temperature conditions, and thus readily release gases into the surrounding air. While not acutely toxic, these gases will accumulate when released indoors, potentially contributing to long-term health effects. Fortunately, some companies produce eco-friendly adhesives that are free of VOCs, making them much safer for your family and for the environment. DriTac Flooring Products recently released a VOC-free, solvent-free flooring adhesive that is compatible for use with sheet vinyl: DriTac Eco-5500 Premium "Green" Pressure Sensitive Flooring Adhesive. Using an adhesive like this enables you to make your sheet vinyl flooring installation as eco-friendly, safe, and healthy as possible.

The trend of eco-friendly construction is unlikely to abate anytime soon, and indeed is predicted to become even more widespread as time goes on. Using green building materials and construction strategy for your new home or remodeling project is more than just environmentally responsible; it can save you money over the long term or when you sell your home, and it can make your home a healthier place to live. Sheet vinyl flooring can easily become part of your eco-friendly home.

The Most Common Mistakes People Make When Building A Tree House!

Trying to build a tree house on your own!

I can tell you now, the most important thing about building a tree house is don't do it alone. Even if you decide to build your platform at a height you can reach from the ground, I guarantee your going to need someone to help hold timbers in place whilst you level and fix it. Then when you get up on the platform, without a second pair of hands to pass you materials up, you will be up and down all day and it will take you twice as long to build. So my advice is always get help!

Trying to build without a design!

Right, you have your tree and you want to build your children the tree house of their dreams. Don't just jump in with lots of wood nails and ladders. People just try to make some sort of platform up in the tree and then end up sticking lots of old wooden planks on top of it... which looks like some sort of shanty-town appearing from your tree which is not a nice sight to look at for you or any neighbours that might be able to see it from their houses. So make sure you design your tree house before you start your project. With the right design, you can see what your tree house will look like and this will also help you make a materials list.

Spotting danger points!

You must know how to spot danger points when building a tree house. Remember, different ages of children require different safety aspects, I.E. the younger the children, the more safety required! Older children can climb ropes and ladders with confidence, but you wouldn't trust a toddler to do this so always think safety!

Movement of trees!

Most people forget when building a tree house, how much the tree actually moves... When you're building a tree house on a nice sunny day, it would seem fine to fix a main beam across from one branch to the other and screw it securely in place, thinking that it will not move. Well you would be wrong... if you fix it like this, when the wind picks up and starts blowing the tree around, the tree will bend and move. The tree is designed to take windy days but if you stick a solid structure on it or against it, things are going to brake when the wind gets up. So you need to know how your tree is moving, if you can watch your tree on a windy day to see how it moves, all the better. If you're going to fix main deck timbers to two different trees where they could move against each other or two branches that move in different directions when the wind blows, you need to fix only one end of the timber securely and have a flexible fixing on the other end to allow the trees to move. The are several different flexible fixings you can use!

Above all Safety!

Most people don't make tree houses safe, or even take care whilst building it. Most accidents happen whilst building your tree house, there's lots of precautions you can take i.e. when climbing up trees and fixing timbers, you might not have your platform to stand on. So just throw a rope over a high branch to what you are working on and tie yourself to one end and get that second pair of hands I was talking about to hold the other end, just in case you fall. Make sure you fix all the posts and hand rails securely and correctly.
